I am still finding the best words to describe our experiences on Saturday. Invited to join in the celebrations of the premier public screening of Devils On Horses, John and I had an impromptu art exhibition. A selection of family member portraits and John’s collection of drawings of the actors were on display in the foyer.
The doc-drama was a fine production and highly emotive. Not a dry eye in the house. The story line brings to light the effects of PTSD and its affects on soldiers, first responders and their families and the need for more support.
With support it will make mainstream cinema’s in 2026. The trailer can be view on YouTube Docedge Film Festival 2025. Donations to support the ANZAC Mounts team can be made through https://www.equinerehab.net
A big thank you to The Globe Theatre Palmerston North, Helen and the team at Bulls Museum, the amazing team of Edward Sampson and his family, the cast (especially John’s sons, Travis and Logan Hickford-Page and family friend Casey Hart), and of course the stars of the show – Terry Kingi, Nikki and their Horses who’s incredible patience during these long presentations in busy public places was admirable. Also, must include the huggable Barney, canine star.
And there are so many more people to thank, whom I have not met personally and don’t even know by name.
The effect on me has been profound, and has given me a greater understand of the unspoken impact of PTSD during my own childhood.
From my heart to yours,
Mon and John xoxo.
