Cafe Hopping Southwards 19-20.08.25.

Picton – Kekerengu – Kaikoura – Cheviot – Rolleston. Morning Coffee at Le Cafe, Picton. Calmer weather for travel, but still quite wild on the coast north of Kaikoura. Love the architecture of The Store Cafe at Kekerengu. Good food and coffee too and the view!!

Such a scenic drive along the coast, it has been 21 years since I have driven this way. The road was closed for several years after the earthquake in November, 2016. On our previous road trips on the Sth Island we had to travel inland through the Lewis or Arthur Passes, which takes an addition four hours travel time. All mountain passes were affected by snow this time and it was a time factor for us to get to Christchurch yesterday.

Tea at Cheviot! At Number Eight Cafe. And dinner at my sister, Mary’s home at Rolleston, our ‘home’ for the next 9 days.
