Settling in to our new housesit – a very special property in the Rangitikei region, for six weeks. I have found that it takes about three days to feel settled and get a sense of the routine the animals are familiar with. We have two beautiful dogs, a kune kune pig and a few hens to care for. Nestled amongst farmland, the property is set on several acres of very old gardens, the house being over 150 years old. A beautiful example of early New Zealand architecture. It is an honour to be looking after her, and to be caring for these special furry (and not so furry) friends.
As house-sitters, we always respect the privacy of the homeowners and only take photos of the animals, in particular for us to draw, and that I may use on our blog.
This drawing of John’s done recently was from a photo of Dora, a German Shepherd we housesat for at Swananoa, near Christchurch, in 2018. She loved the hose and trying to catch that elusive jet of water.
