Daily Cafe Doodles. Rolleston.
Each morning over coffee at a local cafe, I edit the manuscript for my novel and John draws. I love to see how his ability to draw in detail, with one type of pencil and without measurements (as we do for larger pieces of art) in two hours is improving daily.

Our last week housesitting in Rolleston, Christchurch, New Zealand. There is something about holding a drawing in your hands, something that is not felt when you see it on a screen. I look forward to when we will have our own gallery to share our art in the physical world.

Onyx is one of the cats we are looking after at this housesit. Unassuming, gentle, and at times smoochy, he clearly lets us know what he wants. The leaf is a practice run for a larger portrait John is working on.

Cafe Doodles – The Store@Tai Tapu.
This cafe is one of our favourites. Awesome coffee and fresh made food, and no matter what the weather, there is somewhere lovely to sit, write and draw. And the staff always make us feel welcome. ©John W. Page 2025.
